About myself

Professor Pier Paolo Bassareo MD, PhD, MSc, FESC,  FACC

I qualified in the University of Cagliari (Italy) before pursuing further training in Genoa (Italy), Rome (Italy), Naples (Italy), and Paris (France).

I completed a PhD investigating pathophysiology of cardiovascular system in congenital heart disease before pursuing a MSc in Adult Congenital Heart Disease in Bologna (Italy).

I was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (Dublin, Ireland) in 2018 and I am also Associate Clinical Professor in Cardiology at the University College of Dublin, School of Medicine. 

I am instrumental in establishing the process of Transition for patients with congenital heart disease from the paediatric services in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin to the adult care in the Mater hospital. 


I was appointed as a Scholar in Cardiologia (landmark fellowship of the Italian Society of Cardiology), FESC (Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology), and FACC (Fellow of the American College of Cardiology)


I had extensive sub-specialty training in Cardio Pulmonary Exercise Stress Tests and Cardiac Imaging (basic and advanced echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and cardiac MRI) and I have authored about 150 peer reviewed scientific publications on Pubmed and 3 book chapters.

I have been speaker or chairman at many scientific conferences.

Ethics

I am passionate about delivering high quality specialist care for my patients.

My approach is person-centred to meet the patients’ needs by actively engaging them as full participants in their care.
